PROMO Fail?

mario-dna-01Am I the only one that didn’t know about Mario’s Album that dropped on Tuesday? I only found out cuz I saw an AD on Concrete Loop,WOW! He was talking about this album for awhile before all this. Sheeeet no one in TGC even knew his album was out and we’re all fans of his work, WTF?! Bad, bad, bad promo!

I won’t even start to blame the label…fully….Mario is part of the blame. 2009 and YOU yourself ain’t promoing??? C’mon! Saw his Twitter post…not even mentioning the album. WOW! Not saying Twitter is the be all end all but, c’mon! It’s the hottest social networking site of today.

It’s the SAME OL’ sh** people…lol! “Be where people are and run the sh** outta it!” (i.e. Twitter, FB, YouTube, UStream, ur ownblog page etc, etc….Tossing content to CC, Singersroom, YBF etc. I know people don’t “fux wit it” anymore but even MySpace serves a purpose (just in case) with some tunes and links to the other outlets I mentioned). I’ve always felt people don’t watch TV anymore. Sh** we barely watch it either. A few people regarding Mario’s release said the same thing too. Again, you gotta go where heads are at…The ‘NET!……and rinse all it’s outlets. PERIOD!

Jermaine Dupri is a perfect example…if you have some interesting stuff to say, hear etc. the people will come. Perfect example…his YouTube. TONS of humour, great convo/debates, music (music is well… so so, no pun intended…lol!). He has all them followers and throws out a question about Mario’s album and BOOM!…So many replies I can’t read them all! ==> check it here!

Again, same ol’ thing people… “Be where people are and run the sh** outta it!”

Ok, I’m done! Thoughts???

Beyond The Video: “Successful”- Trey Songz feat. Drake

This concept seems well thought out. I’m curious to see the finished product, directed by Jake Davis. Glad they decided to shot it in The Dot too.

iStockfaucetdropSmall-main_FullIs It Better To Leak Your Own Music?

A couple people have sent in the news about how Simon Cowell apparently has called in the police to go after hackers who supposedly hacked into a computer at his record company and leaked a new song by a singer named Leona Lewis. It’s now clear what evidence there is that there was an actual hack, rather than the leak coming from somewhere else, but that seems besides the point. If the computers were broken into, then it seems fair enough to go after those who did the hacking. Read on…

Miami based Producers Cool & Dre also way in on “leaked” records….

Cool & Dre

As well as looking after their beats and archives, Cool & Dre are scrupulous about keeping track of where their tracks are in the studio. The ‘leaked’ mix is becoming either a problem or a guerilla marketing tool; C&D prefer that it remain the latter, particularly since they are now label moguls themselves. “The whole download game has to do with control of the material, and to control it you have to keep track of it,” says Cool. “Usually, you don’t want leaks on a high-profile artist, though sometimes it can also be a good thing, if you’re in control of it. A download about a week before the album release date can be a good time to do it on purpose. ‘New York’ got leaked and it was at a thousand spins before the album came out. But when we’re in the studio, we try not to give copies of anything to anyone, including the artist. Sometimes the clients are the ones who leak it the worst, leaving it in a car or someone’s house or through a ‘friend’. At the end of each session, we back up to DVD and clean off the hard drive before we leave. You gotta control the track.” Read on…
